File Enclosures

Before step one: You are using a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, to view Help. For all procedures, switch back to Internet Mail and News by clicking one of its windows or choosing it on the Finder menu before you do step one.

To view the list of enclosed files in a mail message

  1. If the Mail window is not open, choose Mail from the Windows menu.
  2. In the message list, click the message title that contains the enclosures you want to save. Messages with enclosures have a paper-clip icon next to them.
  3. Click and hold on the Enclosures button on the toolbar.

To save mail message file enclosures

  1. If the Mail window is not open, choose Mail from the Windows menu.
  2. In the message list, click the message title that contains the enclosures you want to save. Messages with enclosures have a paper-clip icon next to them.
  3. Click and hold on the Get Enclosures button on the toolbar.
  4. In the list of enclosures, choose the one you want to save.
  5. In the Save dialog box, choose a location for the file, and then click Save.

To enclose files in a mail message

  1. If you have not already started a new message, choose New Mail Message from the Message menu.
  2. On the Message menu, choose Enclosures.
  3. Use the menu at the top of the Enclosures dialog box to locate the file you want to enclose, and then select it.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each file you want to enclose.
  6. If you change your mind, you can remove an enclosure by selecting it in the Enclosed Files list and then clicking Remove.
  7. When you are finished, click Done.

To view mail message file enclosures by using helpers

  1. On the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Under Mail & News, click Send/Receive.
  3. In the Mail and News Settings area, make sure the Use File Helpers To View Enclosures check box is selected.
  4. If the Mail window is not open, choose Mail from the Windows menu.
  5. In the message list, click the message title that contains the enclosures you want to see. Messages with enclosures have a paper-clip icon next to them.
  6. Click and hold on the Get Enclosures button on the toolbar.
  7. In the list of enclosures, choose the one you want to see.

To save news message file enclosures

  1. If the newsgroup that contains the enclosures you want to download is not open, choose Newsgroups from the Windows menu and double-click the newsgroup.
  2. Select the news message that contains the enclosure you want to download. To download multiple enclosures, hold down the Shift key while you select messages.
  3. On the News menu, choose Extract Binaries.
  4. Select a location for the file.
  5. If a file that you receive from the Internet is compressed and encoded (for example, Example.sit.hqx), Internet Mail and News will unencode it for you, but you will need to have a program, such as Stuffit, to uncompress it.
